All
Applicants must:
- Be a
permanent resident of the District of Kent
- Be in
good physical condition, able to meet the physical demands of firefighting (undergo and pass a physical fitness test administered by the Department)
- Undergo and pass a medical examination (from physician) to determine fitness as
a firefighter
- Have
no phobias of height or confined spaces
- Have
normal vision with no colour impairment and normal hearing
- Possess and maintain a valid BC Drivers License with a demonstrated safe driving
record
- Provide a Driving Record Check (Driver's Abstract)
- Be
able to pass an RCMP Criminal Record Check
- Be
able to communicate effectively
- Be
able to work as a team member
- Complete the Agassiz Fire Department's six week Recruit Training Program (on
Thursdays and some weekends)
- Be
available and regularly attend Thursday evening practice Sessions (19:00 - 21:00
hrs)
- Be
available to respond to incidents (may occur anytime, day or night, throughout
the year)
- Enroll
and participate in the BC Fire Fighter Program
- Successfully complete a six month probation period
Note: Firefighters are not permitted to grow facial hair, except
moustache (per Workers Compensation Board regulation)
Additional considerations in evaluating
candidates
- Permanently employed in the District of Kent
- Previous firefighting experience
- Class
3 license with Air Endorsement
- Grade
12 education
- Experience in construction or mechanical trades
- Experience in the operation of heavy equipment or vehicles
- Ability to respond to daytime calls
- Valid
First Aid Certification
